History:
- Former owner : Mr Proyodrana, a very rich Kalang Businessman who owned the first Roll Royce in Yogyakarta
- Built in 1857
- Used as residence, convention center, hotel, education center
- Severely damage by 2006 earthquake
- Was in the market for a decade

Landmark of Kotagede
- People was worried of its future : they loved the Dalem (mansion) and want to keep it
- 5000 people were married there
- Center for wayang (puppet shadow), javanese music (gamelan), and dance performance
- Movies were made : Biola Tak Berdawai

Why I bought it?
- Love yogya, its people, its culture
- Plan to establish in Yogya, Need a residence
- Architect friends suggested heritage house
- Place of memory of Javanese people
- Make it as a community, cultural and art center and a living museum of Javanese culture in-situ

What do I do
- Physical condition is so bad, a new EQ would destroy the house totally
- Ask my heritage architect friends to help
- Record using computer the detail of the houese, materials and the land test in lab
- Find a contactor and skilled workers
- Immediately restore, reinforce the structure of the house so it will be much stronger than before

How do I restore the Dalem
- Using similiar materials : blegon, woods, tiles and roof tiles and old teak wods
- Introducing green and clean energy : solar panel
- Strengthening structure (used steel structure when necessary), replace worn-out teak wood
- Restore if we can, avoid replacing
- Used all materials fron the residence

What do I need to finish the major
renovation?
- Credit from Bank to finish perfectly the renovation and to buy furniture and other objects
- Tax incentive from government
- Would be grateful if international institutions or community can help

Kerusakan bagungan sebelah kiri separuh rubuh, bagian belakang rumah
dinding-dindingnya pecah. Bangunan samping kanan depan (garasi) juga
rubuh. Rangka dinding semua telah ditanami kolom-kolom besi untuk penguatan.
- Ada 2 tim yang menangani konservasi : Tim Perencana dan Tim Pelaksanan.

Tim Perencana yang terdiri dari ahli arsitektur dan BPCB mengambil foto
kondisi existing sebelum konservasi. Mereka juga mengambil sampel bahan
ubin, kaca, dinding serta cat, lalu di tes dan dibuatkan formula yang
akan dipakai dalam perbaikan rumah ini di Laboratorium Balai Konservasi
Borobudur.
- Tim Pelaksana menuruti
konsep pelestarian dimana bangunan utama akan dipertahankan asli.
Antara lain Pendapa, Gandhok Kiwa & Tengen, Pringgitan, Kamar dua di
belakang, Gadri serta bangunan belakang setelah taman yang disuga untuk
membatik dipertahankan asli.

Material juga diusahakan menggunakan bahan yang sama dengan yang
dipakai rumah ini ketika dibangun. Misalnya penggunaan bligon untuk
tembok dan juga campuran ubin yang tanpa semen, tapi hanya campuran
tumbukan bata merah, pasir dan gamping.
- Pengerjaan telah berlangsung 9 bulan dan baru sampai tahap 30% sebab detil dan aturan serta kaidah pelestaraian berusaha diterapkan semaksimal mungkin.
- Pemilik telah mempersilakan bagi siapa saja dari bidang apapun untuk datang dan belajar dari konservasi yang tengah dilakukan ini. Tersedia foto atau dokumentasi setiap tindakan yang diambil sehingga bisa menjadi laboratorium bersama pelestarian bangunan heritage.
